Credenhill Park Wood Closure Update

Credenhill Park Wood remains closed until around the end of March as there continues to be large forestry machinery on site. The harvesting of timber as part of the ancient woodland restoration is difficult on a site like this, with steep slopes and a scheduled ancient monument, and the poor weather at the end of 2018 caused delays. Harvesting takes place in winter to avoid the bird nesting season. The Woodland Trust is grateful to the local people for not using this wood during the work and for their patience whilst we carry out this important restoration work.

Once the work is complete, the Woodland Trust will run a guided walk for local people to explain what we have been doing and why. Details and dates to be confirmed.

Church Wardens Report February 2019

It seems a long time since Christmas but we cannot let the season go without thanking everyone who joined in with our Angel Festival. Well over 100 angels decorated the church. The Brownies and Rainbows filled a window with nearly 30 angels on a bed of clouds. Several ladies including Brenda Lindesay and Jill Fenn knitted over 20 angels (Many following Jean Crew’s pattern) which were displayed on the Christmas Tree. The craft group created a host of 21 angels under the direction of Jean Wells, which were arranged as a heavenly choir. Mark Jones and Don Coates provided several wooden angels. Each Class in the school provided a range of amazing angels in different media and form. Rev Rana and Trevor created a full sized angel which watched over the stable. Jean Bowles used her artistic talent to create an artistic display. Credenhill Court provided an angel that was displayed in the chancel. Paula Fitch used her angels to decorate the children’s window and Barbara Brown used a willow wreath to display her knitted angels. These were all brought together with a range of angels in many forms and the prayer table for December continued the angel theme.

These were all on display for the Carol Service with the Angels, when we were thrilled to have a full church to join in with a group of school children and the Brownies and Rainbows who sang carols for us and Leon and Emily who entertained us on the Saxaphone and with angelic singing. This was rounded off with a seasonal supper provided by the ladies of the church.

Thank you all.

The Hamper Draw was a huge success this year raising just short of £400. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes, sold and/or bought tickets and to Mike and Fiona for putting it all together.

Jean Bowles has raised £500 towards the decoration of the church through her calendar sales. The estimate is over £2,000. If anyone would like to contribute please let me know.

Messy Church was very well supported. We had over 30 children and their parents who took part in various craft activities and a Christingle Service followed by a Christmas tea. Please look out for posters for our next event as we have 3 of our team who have/are quite ill so we cannot as yet arrange the next meeting.

Lots of Toys and Gifts were donated to the Hereford Salvation Army Appeal and a large amount of Christmas treats were given for the Food Bank at the All Age Toy Service.

The church was full again for the Pop Up Nativity held at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve. It was lovely to see the youth of the community join in with such enthusiasm.Thank you to Donna who organised and led both of these services.

Many people have commented positively on the Angel Trail which gave families a focus for a walk through the village. The trail ended in church where the words collected were made into a sentence. 33 people entered the competition and were awarded a small prize for completing the sentence. Thank you to Mark Jones for providing the angels. We were lucky to be awarded a grant towards the cost of the festival from the Diocese which made this possible.

Congratulations to Mike Wilkinson who has been commisioned as Police Chaplain. Mike and his wife Maggie have been members of St Mary’s congregation for many years and are well known for their work with Street Pastors and many other groups. Mike is a governor at St Mary’s School.

Thank you Dorrie Coates and Jean Bowles,

Brownies News February 2019

Credenhill Brownies and Rainbows begin working from the new Programme this term. The programme has been updated to meet the needs of the modern girls.

It is based on Skillbuilding, Interest badges and Working together as a unit. These 3 aspects lead towards a thematic award. The first theme they have chosen to work on is ‘Knowing You’

They will still have meetings to celebrate special times of the year depending on the girls’ interests. The first one for 2019 will be the Chinese New Year.

We meet at the Community Centre on Fridays from 5:30 – 7pm.

If your daughter would like to join us we have limited availability. Please log on to the Guiding site and register in the join us section and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Letter from the Vicar

Dear Friends,

I have become increasingly concerned that as a nation we just aren’t very good at being kind to each other and with Valentines Day this month, maybe we could all make February our “Kindness Month”! So here is what Jesus said about how we should treat each other: “Love one another” John 15:12 & 17.

There is not one person that Jesus does not love and he calls us all to love one another as he has loved us. For some of us it is so hard to do! But it doesn’t have to be a big thing. If we give a glass of water to someone who is thirsty, we love in the same way Jesus would. If we smile at someone, it may be the only smile they receive all day or all week. Caring for others comes very naturally to many people, but for others it is something that we have to determine to do. One of the things that Jesus loves most is kindness. And acts of kindness happen in a moment. Taking the time to phone someone you know who is hurting, writing someone a quick note or inviting someone to brunch at the ‘Street Kitchen’ on a Friday or Saturday morning at Credenhill Community Hall, are all ways of acting out kindness and showing love. There are many ways to show someone our love for them but it helps to be understanding of the people we are particularly concerned about, so that we can brighten their day with a little with a random act of meaningful kindness.

It might be that our “Kindness Month” develops into a “Kindness Year” and we all become better people because of it! I will be interested to hear how you all do!

With every Blessing, Rana

KS1 & KS2 NEWS

On 11th December Y2 & Y6 sang carols at Wyevale Garden Centre in aid of the ‘Hands Around The World’ Charity raising £52.76.

The children sang beautifully and we have received messages from families of the children and the public to say that their performance was brilliant.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children and well done to the children for a wonderful performance.

On 13th December our KS2 choir visited Headway
& Credenhill Court. We have received feedback
from both venues to say that the children’s performances were beautiful
and certainly put everyone in the festive spirit.

Year 4 & Year 5 attended the ‘Nativity Service’ at Hereford Cathedral on the 11th December. The children sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Mary Did You Know’ to the congregation and enjoyed the service which included a very
well behaved donkey!

On Thursday 17th January, Class 5 performed in the Genting Arena in Birmingham along with thousands of other school children from across the region.  This was a fantastic opportunity for all the children. The trip to Birmingham also included visits a Hindu Temple and a Sikh Gurdwara.
