Can you help vulnerable residents during the heatwave?

As the current heatwave continues this week, we’re asking everyone across the county, to help us look after those residents within our local communities, who may be more vulnerable during the hot weather.

This is the perfect time to give a little something back to your local community, by volunteering to give an hour to help everyone stay safe and well.

Knife Angel Visit to Hereford Cathedral – 14 June to 12 July

The Knife Angel will be situated outside the West End of Hereford Cathedral from 14June to 12 July.  The sculpture is 27ft tall, it weighs 3.5 ton and is made out of 100,000 confiscated knives received from 43 Police Forces across the UK. It originated from The British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry and took sculptor Alfie Bradley over two years to construct. It has been on tour round the UK and has become a national monument against violence and aggression in all its forms. Not only does the Angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour, but it is also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions.

The team responsible for bringing the Knife Angel to Hereford is headed by Alison Davies and Meryl Cain. Alison lost her son Mark to knife crime in 2018. The team want to raise awareness of the catastrophic impact violent crime has on individuals, families and communities.

Inside both the cathedral and Hereford Library, there will be boards displaying work carried out in response to the Knife Angel by children and young people.  The project team will also share work via social media.  Hereford City Youth Council have also arranged a series of workshop events throughout the month including creative arts and self-defence coaching.

The knife angel creators would like as many young people as possible to become anti-violence champions and have created an anti-violence certificate as a thank you to all young people who stand up to violence.  There will be printed copies of the certificate available at the Knife Angel for those who visit.

Minerals and Waste Local Plan Pre-Submission Consultation – Ends on 24 May 2021

Herefordshire Council is preparing a Minerals and Waste Development Plan Document, which when adopted will form part of the Herefordshire Local Plan and there is still time for you to comment.

The Minerals and Waste Local Plan has been published along with accompanying evidence base reports. The consultation is open until midnight on Monday 24 May 2021.

During this period comments are invited on the ‘soundness’ of the plan and whether the correct legal processes have been followed.  To be sound policies should be positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy.

Comments are also sought on the Sustainability Appraisal and the Habitats Regulations Assessment reports, which have been published alongside the MWLP and its evidence base documents.

The consultation documents & evidence used to support the development of the MWLP, and details of how to take part will be available on the Minerals and Waste Local Plan webpage .

A video presentation providing an overview of the policies and proposals of the MWLP, and how to get involved in the consultation, can also be viewed on the website, along with the presentation slides. After watching this, should you have any questions on the MWLP or its evidence base, please email ldf@herefordshire.gov.uk  

After the consultation, the council will consider all the representations prior to submitting the final draft of the document to the Secretary of State for examination, together with the representations received. Tribute to Jeremy Daw

It is with great shock and sadness that we received the news about Jeremy losing his life whist attending a 999 call on Saturday.

Jeremy Daw (Jack to his friends and colleagues) is well known in the village of Credenhill. He would often be seen walking his little Jack Russell, Siwa, with a cheerful smile and time to stop and talk to everyone.

Jack will be missed terribly and remembered well by so many of us

He served the community not only as a Paramedic for almost 30 years, but also in the Territorial Army and for some years on the Parish Council in the 90’s and as Editor of the Credenhill Community News. He was a member of the Credenhill Social and Sports Club. He was a keen metal detectorist, and had recently purchased a new detector. Together with a friend he discovered a hoard of Roman coins near Kimbolton in 2013 and has helped to create and promote their display at nearby Stockton Bury Gardens, to share his joy of the discovery.  More recently he was able to expand his local history knowledge and become an enthusiastic guide of Hereford City, sharing his love of history. You may have seen him restoring one of several historic mileposts in the County, including the one in Credenhill (Read Jeremy’s Article), Indeed he was enthusiastic about everything he did.

Jeremy was very much a family man, he and his wife Dawn made sure to build lasting memories for the children and grandchildren. They holidayed all together every year, at home or abroad in his beloved Greece. He will be missed terribly and remembered well by so many of us.

The Parish Council would like to thank Jeremy for everything that he has done for the local community, our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Road Closure – Dovecote Lane 5th May 2021

Please see below notice and map of the road closure on 5th May 2021. It is planned that the road will be closed between 9:30 and 14:30 so as to minimise disruption; residents directly affect will receive a letter from Balfour Beatty.

2021/2022 Grant Opportunity for Credenhill Organisations

Following approval at last nights Parish Council meeting I am pleased to attached an application form and a copy of our policy/procedure in relation to section 137 grants which your organisation is eligible to apply for.

The current round of applications for the 2021/2022 Financial Year will need to be completed with all required backup paperwork (as detailed in the policy) by 31st May 2021 for consideration at the Credenhill Parish Council meeting in June.
